NUTRITIONAL TESTING SERVICE
Required Information for Nutritional Labelling
Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers states that the mandatory nutrition declaration must include the following:
a) energy value (in both kilojoules (kJ) and kilocalories (kcal)); and
b) the amounts (in grams (g)) of fat, saturates, carbohydrate, sugars, protein and salt
The following can be declared on a voluntary basis
- mono-unsaturates
- poly-unsaturates
- polyols
- starch
- fibre
The Nutritional Testing Service
Foodtest Laboratories offer an unrivalled nutritional testing service. We test the product and supply results for all required parameters.
Results can be provided on a SAME DAY SERVICE if required, we are the only laboratory in the United Kingdom who offer this service. Standard service is 3 working days from sample receipt, however up to 10 days can be offered.
Further Infomation
It is a legal requirement for most foodstuffs to have the following information displayed on the packaging.
- the name of the food
- a ‘best before’ or ‘use by’ date (or instructions on where to find it)
- any necessary warnings
- net quantity information
- a list of ingredients(if there is more than 1)
- the name and address of the manufacturer, packer or seller
- the country of origin, if required
- the lot number or use-by date
- any special storage conditions
- instructions for use or cooking, if necessary
You must also show these if they apply to your product:
- a warning for drinks with an alcohol content above 1.2%
- a warning if the product contains GM ingredients, unless their presence is accidental and 0.9% or less
- a warning if the product has been irradiated
- the words ‘packaged in a protective atmosphere’ if the food is packaged using a packaging gas
